Mr. Goodyear's Neighborhood is a podcast I developed with Brandon Long & Todd Oberndorfer of the Ogden Outdoor Adventure Show. OAA started as a live radio show at Weber State University's KWCR-FM radio station. After graduation, Brandon & Todd kept the show alive by producing OOA as a podcast. They cover local events, interview the movers and shakers in Ogden and keep adventurers in the know by highlighting stories in the outdoor industry. They've been at it now for over 5 years and just wrapped up thier 235th show!
In 2014, Brandon, Todd and I founded The Banyan Collective, an Ogden media and broadcasting company producing podcast shows, connecting the local community with the outdoors. Our current catalog of shows include the Ogden Outdoor Adventure Show, Bug Huckers, Van Sessions and Mr. Goodyear's Neighborhood. MGN is a long-format interview show named after Miles Goodyear, the original moutain man who founded Fort Buenaventura and the first european (white man) to settle in what is now Weber County. I've been hosting MGN for a couple of years, but Brandon and Todd do all the work. You can check out all the shows by clicking on the MGN or the ITunes logos on this page.
All the MGN shows were available on the Striders Running website, which doesn't exist anymore (Striders Running is now Jackrabbit) but all the interviews are still available on the links above. With the new Wojo Family website, we'll highlight our favorite shows from the past and post new and improved shows from Mr. Goodyear's Neighborhood.
We're currently developing new shows and are very excited to announce what we have coming up! Before we get to what's new, I wanted to post an interview we did last October '15 with Bill Allred. Bill's interview at Ogden's GOAL Foundation was our most ambitious MGN to date. It was a live show with the 'who's who' of Ogden in attendance. Bill is the longtime co-host ofX96's Radio From Hell show and also a native of Ogden. It took a few months to work out everybody's schedules so this event could happen. But it did and we're very pround of the results. We hope to produce many more shows like this, maybe we can even get Kerry and Gina along with Bill someday?
Well, enjoy the show and please check out some of the other shows produced by The Banyan Collective.
Here's the original copy and show notes for Bill's interview:
Bill Allred, the Prime Minister of radio and the voice of Utah’s counter culture, was Ogden’s guest of honor in this episode of The Banyan Collective’s, Mr. Goodyear’s Neighborhood podcast.
It was a party on the boulevard with Roosters Brewing serving up a special dish for Bill at GOAL Foundation headquarters. It was a full house with the ‘who’s who’ of Ogden stopping by to listen in as Mayor Mike Caldwell welcomes Bill back to O-Town. Bill was on point with stories of his youth, dragging the ‘Vard’ and the state of his mental health while growing up in this mountain town.
Bill looked great! He’s fit, he has a new knee and a haircut that would make any missionary proud. Bill was a great sport as we shot gunned questions at him about pop-culture and the new Star Wars movie, what his 10 year plan is and oh yeah, would you like to sleep in the Tan Van and help Brandon MC the Ogden Marathonstarting line?
As the party settled down and the cleanup began, Bill said some very sweet things about his family and his loyalty to X96 Radio from Hell co-hosts, Kerry Jackson and Gina Barberi. It was during these final touching moments we learn Bill understands John’s man-crush with Eddie Vedder and he would like Peter Dinklage to play the role of ‘Bill’ is a biopic about Ralph William Allred.
Thank you, Bill! It was an honor and we can’t wait to do it again.
