'May your feet take you where your heart wants to go.' Now that is a very profound and literal statement. If you want something, you need to work to get it. Or is your interpretation; heed to your will and your feet will take you there? I don't know, all I know is that I have a propensity for blisters on my feet...really big and nasty blisters. I have become the master of blisters.
Are you familiar with the elementary school phenomenon called 'Dad's and Donuts?' It's a monthly event where 'Dad's' take the morning off from work and invest the time with their children at their school reading 'Green Eggs and Ham' while munching on donuts. It's a time honored tradition at Cook Elementary, a tradition I have participated in several times with Shad during his 3rd grade year. I reminisce fondly the many times he and I read 'Young Salt, Old Salt' together in the same library I attended grade school. Shad, I am sure, also looks back on those times and his love for his father is reaffirmed;-)
Poor Jessica. As I approached middle aged and felt the need to conquer something big, I took up ultra running and began my quest to finish the Wasatch 100. I was running a lot, and because of my training, often missed very important 'Dad' stuff. One fateful morning, I opted to run and miss Jessica's Dad's and Donuts event. It was a great run with my good friend, Matt, but it was a run he and I had done several times before and I surely could have missed. As fate would have it, I developed a very nasy blister on my heel that Tuesday morning. I learned two very important lessons that week: Matt taught me how to deal with blisters (literally), and Jessica taught me to be a better Dad...otherwise we'll be conducting our version of Dad's and Donuts at 11:00pm on a school night. Okay, go watch the video now.
7 years later, Krisitn is still calling me out on my bullsh*t and Jessica still just wants to be with her Dad. I am the master of blisters, but the hot spots are healing, the skin is getting tougher and my heart is leading. Metaphors speaking I am. When the heart rules the mind.
Hey, Jessica - lets go grab a box of donuts and read those Harry Potter books now. I've approached a new middle aged and this next feat will require milk and reading glasses. You're going to love it!
