Karl Meltzer, also known as the 'Speedgoat,' is the winningest 100 mile runner in history. With multiple wins at the Hardrock 100, Wasatch 100 and the Bear 100, Karl's trophy room is stacked deep with championship hardware. With all the success as an ultra runner, the record Karl pines to own is the 2,160 mile Appalachian Trail thru 'run.' That's right, Karl is going after Scott Jurek's AT record of 46 days, 8 hours and 7 minutes. Karl is currently traveling to Mount Katahdin on the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail to begin his record attempt. You can track his progress here: www.atrun.redbull.com
Last November, we sat down with Karl and his wife, Cheryl, and we chatted about romance, Hoka, ultra running and Karl announced his plans to go for the AT record. It all went down in the cold mountain air of Ogden, but good thing we were all snuggled in the comforts of the Tan Van. Enjoy and good luck, Karl!
